The Death Literacy Institute is a for purpose organisation.

Our vision is a world where death is part of life. Our mission is to create a more death literate society, one that actively supports the needs of our citizens who are dying, grieving, and caregiving.

To do this we work across sectors and institutions, with people, places, and organisations to embed skills, experience, actions, and knowledge that create death literacy and achieve better outcomes.

Through training and education, the Death Literacy Institute aims to support the capacity of community change-makers to take action toward new and innovative ways of practicing death and loss.

As a start-up, our goal is to embed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into our organisational planning and development (United Nations General Assembly, 2015).

Our Values:

  • We act with integrity

  • We are open, always learning and developing

  • We acknowledge that change work takes courage and time

  • We acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Elders of the lands we live and work on, and the wisdom of community leaders

  • We are a sustainable business purposefully mindful of people, planet, and profit
