Abstract call now open

We are excited to invite you to the 4th International Death Literacies Symposium to be held from 11 – 13 October 2027 in Kerala, India. The symposium will be hosted by Dr. Saif Mohammed at the Institute of Palliative Medicine.

Due to the growth of our symposium, we have decided to put out a call for abstracts. We are welcoming two categories of abstracts for this event: general abstracts and Early Career Researcher abstracts.

Early Career Researcher abstracts

This category is specifically for researchers who are currently enrolled in their PhD or have defended it in the last 12 months. These researchers can present their work for the entire symposium with the intention to receive constructive feedback from peers and more experienced researchers and practitioners. The symposium aims to provide a nourishing environment for early-stage researchers at a formative period in their career. Selected Early Career Researcher abstracts will be awarded an oral presentation in one of these sessions (10min + 5min discussion).

General abstracts

This category is for everyone else who wants to present their work at the symposium. Within this category we accept several types of abstracts (research, arts, community practice) and you can submit for two types of presentations: single oral presentations or workshop sessions (45mins).

Registrations for the 4th International Death Literacy Symposium are now open! To ensure we can accommodate everyone, and to keep the atmosphere as informal and cosy as the last 3 events, places are limited to 70 attendees.

We aim to keep the event as low-cost as possible while offering attendees the most value we can. While in previous years we were able to avoid an attendance fee, or have kept it very low, this year will have a slightly higher fee. However, this comes with additional comforts that we hope many of you will appreciate.

The registration fee will be 150 USD and covers the following:

• Airport pick-up and drop-off

• Daily pick-up and drop-off during the program

• ⁠Food and refreshments, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea, and snacks

• Audio-visual facilities and an air-conditioned hall

• ⁠Administrative costs

• Stationery, printing and communication materials

We hope to welcome you in Kerala in October 2027.
